Severe equine asthma (SEA) is a common, debilitating inflammatory airway disease of horses. Next-generation sequencing identified numerous differentially expressed epithelial genes in asthmatic compared to healthy horses, including downregulation of the gene for salivary scavenger and agglutinin (SALSA).
