Sex-Biased Gene Expression

Annual Review of Genetics, 2016
Methods of transcriptional profiling have made it possible to compare gene expression between females and males on a genome-wide scale. Such studies have revealed that sex-biased gene expression is abundant in many species, although its extent may vary greatly among tissues or developmental stages.

The evolution of sex-biased genes and sex-biased gene expression

Nature Reviews Genetics, 2007
Differences between males and females in the optimal phenotype that is favoured by selection can be resolved by the evolution of differential gene expression in the two sexes. Microarray experiments have shown that such sex-biased gene expression is widespread across organisms and genomes.
