The human sexual response is a complicated biopsychosocial phenomenon in which internal and external stimuli are modulated by the central and peripheral nervous system, resulting in a cascade of biochemical, hormonal and circulatory changes that lead to cognitive and physical sexual arousal.

Publisher Summary Chemical communication is essential for coordination of activities in a multicellular organism. Hormones play an essential role in this communication as chemical signaling molecules. Hormones are substances produced in one portion of an organism and transported by any means, including diffusion, to other portions of the same ...

Many medications have been suggested which may diminish the effects of aging on various tissues in the body. Particularly notable have been the interventions into the characteristic changes involving the skin, sensory, cardiovascular and neurologic systems, all of which have been considered to abrogate the declining intracellular metabolic maintenance.

Abstract: Whenever serum estrogen concentrations are normal in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients, lower androgen concentrations (i.e., testosterone, androstenedione, and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate [DHEAS]) are detected in the serum as well as in the synovial fluid of male and female RA patients.

Sex hormones and lipoproteins in men☆
The American Journal of Medicine, 1989To clarify the conflicting evidence of an association between endogenous sex hormones and lipoprotein metabolism in men, we examined the relationship between sex hormone levels, total cholesterol, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), taking into account the coronary artery disease (CAD) status of the subjects.Sex hormone levels, total ...

There is compelling evidence that use of oral formulations of female hormone replacement and of the combined oral contraceptive induces a prothrombotic state. This translates to an increased thrombotic risk. Within the individual, the absolute risk is determined by the interaction between that induced by hormone use and heritable and acquired risk ...

The aim of this study was to review the classical concept of bladder physiology in regard to sex hormone effects and to focus on a new concept. Sex hormones affect bladder functions and the classical concept tries to explain these effects via alpha and beta adrenoreceptors. The effects of hormones had been investigated in this understanding.
