Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Penumbra Shadow Representation in Photovoltaics: Comparing Dynamic and Constant Intensity

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study is the first to directly compare natural dynamic penumbra shadows with experimentally replicated constant-intensity shadows on photovoltaic modules, providing new insights into the limitations of conventional shadow approximations found in the

Single image shadow removal by optimization using non-shadow anchor values

open access: yesComputational Visual Media, 2019
Shadow removal has evolved as a pre-processing step for various computer vision tasks. Several studies have been carried out over the past two decades to eliminate shadows from videos and images. Accurate shadow detection is an open problem because it is

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Shadows and traces in bicategories

open access: yes, 2012
Traces in symmetric monoidal categories are well-known and have many applications; for instance, their functoriality directly implies the Lefschetz fixed point theorem. However, for some applications, such as generalizations of the Lefschetz theorem, one

Perception of shadows in children with autism spectrum disorders.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BackgroundCast shadows in visual scenes can have profound effects on visual perception. Much as they are informative, they also constitute noise as they are salient features of the visual scene potentially interfering with the processing of other ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Automatic Shadow Detection in Urban Very-High-Resolution Images Using Existing 3D Models for Free Training

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Up-to-date 3D city models are needed for many applications. Very-high-resolution (VHR) images with rich geometric and spectral information and a high update rate are increasingly applied for the purpose of updating 3D models.
