Miniaturized shake-flask HPLC method for determination of distribution coefficient of drugs used in inflammatory bowel diseases

open access: yesActa Pharmaceutica, 2019
A new method for determination of distribution coefficient of drugs azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine and 6-thioguanine and nutrient folic acid used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease based on a miniaturized shake-flask and HPLC/DAD was ...

Improved Lycopene Production from Different Substrates by Mated Fermentation of Blakeslea Trispora

open access: yesFoods, 2019
The production of lycopene from different substrates by Blakeslea trispora in fermentation was investigated. Lycopene productions from 4 and 6% glucose (pH 6.5) in shake flask fermentation were 77.7 and 28.1 mg L−1.

Effect of acetate metabolism modulation on 2'-fucosyllactose production in engineered Escherichia coli

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2021
2'-Fucosyllactose (2'-FL) is one of the most important oligosaccharides in human milk. In this study, a glucose–glycerol mixed carbon source and the deletion of the genes arcA and iclR were attempted for the first time in engineered Escherichia coli to ...

Whole-cell Escherichia coli lactate biosensor for monitoring mammalian cell cultures during biopharmaceutical production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Many high-value added recombinant proteins, such as therapeutic glycoproteins, are produced using mammalian cell cultures. In order to optimise the productivity of these cultures it is important to monitor cellular metabolism, for example the utilisation

SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Heavy metal bioavailability and bioaccessibility in soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This chapter considers the use of a variety of approaches to assess either the bioavailability or the bioaccessibility of metals in soil. The bioavailability of metals from soils is considered with respect to a series of single-extraction methods ...

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

A procedure to harmonize the hydrodynamic force during microbial cultivation in shaking flasks

open access: yesJournal of Microbiology & Biology Education, 2023
Shake flask cultivation is a routine technique in microbiology and biotechnology laboratories where cell growth can be affected by the hydrodynamic conditions, which depend on the agitation velocity, shaking diameter, and shake flask size.

Optimization of Cellulase Production by Chaetomium Globosum Strain 414 Using Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Fibre as Substrate [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The production of three major components of cellulase (FPase, CMCase and 13-glucosidase) by Chaetomium globoslim strain 414 was studied in a shake flask experiment.
