Creating public value in the policy advice role [PDF]
"As a public servant I live with the tension captured in Richard Mulgan’s question: ‘How much responsiveness is too much or too little?’ (Mulgan, 2008).

Synchrotron Radiation for Quantum Technology
Materials and interfaces underpin quantum technologies, with synchrotron and FEL methods key to understanding and optimizing them. Advances span superconducting and semiconducting qubits, 2D materials, and topological systems, where strain, defects, and interfaces govern performance.

Coating the standard polypropylene separator with a porous red phosphorous nanosheet greatly improves cycling performance in Li electrode cells. The phosphorus‐based surface chemistry deactivates electrolyte solvent decomposition and enhances the cleavage of F‐containing salt, resulting in an inorganic‐dominated electrolyte interphase (SEI) composition

Micropatterned Biphasic Printed Electrodes for High‐Fidelity on‐Skin Bioelectronics
Micropatterned biphasic printed electrodes achieve unprecedented skin conformity and low impedance by combining liquid‐metal droplets with microstructured 3D lattices. This scalable approach enables high‐fidelity detection of ECG, EMG, and EEG signals, including alpha rhythms from the forehead, with long‐term comfort and stability.

Nucleonic coal detector with independent, hydropneumatic suspension [PDF]
The design of a nucleonic, coal interface detector which measures the depth of coal on the roof and floor of a coal mine is presented. The nucleonic source and the nucleonic detector are on independent hydropneumatic suspensions to reduce the measurement

This study examines how pore shape and manufacturing‐induced deviations affect the mechanical properties of 3D‐printed lattice materials with constant porosity. Combining µ‐CT analysis, FEM, and compression testing, the authors show that structural imperfections reduce stiffness and strength, while bulk material inhomogeneities probably enhance ...

SINS/OD integrated navigation system for shearer based on robust closed-loop path calibration
The Strapdown Inertial Navigation System (SINS) and Odometer (OD) integrated navigation system based on non-holonomic constraints and closed-loop path calibration is a widely used positioning scheme for shearers.

IS IT FEASIBLE TO DEVELOP AN AGRIBUSINESS SELLING PRECISION FARMING SERVICES TO FARMERS? [PDF]
With the introduction of Variable-Rate Technology, farmers have the capability to decrease input costs, increase output or both. Not all farmers can justify purchasing the equipment, therefore relying on agribusiness firms to provide precision farming ...

‘Enacted in the destiny of sedentary peoples’: racism, discovery and the grounds of law [PDF]
Whilst the racial, and racist, basis of the doctrine of discovery is a modern innovation, the doctrine owes much to its pre-modern forms and ethos. The finding and settlement of putatively unknown lands has long been attended with mythic and religious ...
