The gut microbiota is closely related to human health, but mechanisms for the gut microbiota affects human health are not very clear. Short-chain fatty acids derived from the gut microbiota play an important role in immune regulation.

Glycerin Revalorization Using Anaerobic Digestion of Organic Waste
A novel process for the revalorization of glycerine from biodiesel production is proposed. Glycerol is converted to short chain oils by reaction with volatile fatty acids. The volatile fatty acids can be obtained from anaerobic digestion of organic waste

Electron transport phosphorylation in rumen butyrivibrios: unprecedented ATP yield for glucose fermentation to butyrate. [PDF]
From a genomic analysis of rumen butyrivibrios (Butyrivibrio and Pseudobutyrivibrio sp.), we have re-evaluated the contribution of electron transport phosphorylation (ETP) to ATP formation in this group.

Absorption of Short Chain Fatty Acids in Man.
SummaryThe relative rates of absorption of 7 short chain fatty acids from jejunum and colon of man have been compared with their partition into chloroform from an aqueous solution. The longer the chain length the faster the acids were absorbed. This probably reflected their greater solubility in lipid as shown by their partition into chloroform.

Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Effects of the gut microbiota and its metabolite short-chain fatty acids on endometriosis
In recent years, a growing body of research has confirmed that the gut microbiota plays a major role in the maintenance of human health and disease. A gut microbiota imbalance can lead to the development of many diseases, such as pregnancy complications,

Short‐chain fatty acid sensing in rat duodenum
Key points Luminal lipid in the duodenum modulates gastroduodenal functions via the release of gut hormones and mediators such as cholecystokinin and 5‐HT. The effects of luminal short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the foregut are unknown. Free fatty acid receptors (FFARs) for long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) and SCFAs are expressed in enteroendocrine ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Gut microbiota facilitate chronic spontaneous urticaria
Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) comes with gut dysbiosis, but its relevance remains elusive. Here we use metagenomics sequencing and short-chain fatty acids metabolomics and assess the effects of human CSU fecal microbial transplantation, Klebsiella ...
