Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Short-term Fluctuations Of The Mesospheric Na Layer Observed By High-time-resolution Lidar

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2018
Based on the 6-s resolution Na lidar measurements during ~395 hours on 47 different nights from May to November 2011 in Beijing(40.2°N, 116°E), China, it was found that the Na density at altitude 83-98 km always exhibited strong short-term fluctuations ...

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

The free energy cost of reducing noise while maintaining a high sensitivity

open access: yes, 2015
Living systems need to be highly responsive, and also to keep fluctuations low. These goals are incompatible in equilibrium systems due to the Fluctuation Dissipation Theorem (FDT).

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Superconducting fluctuations of the specific heat in the short wavelength fluctuation regime

open access: yesPhysics Procedia, 2012
AbstractEffects of the short wavelength fluctuations on the specific heat ΔC in a superconductor are studied within the scheme of the Aslamazov-Larkin (AL) theory. By imposing the momentum cutoff in the fluctuation spectrum, formulae for ΔC are derived in a layered system as well as in n-dimensional (nD) systems (n=1, 2 and 3).

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Why T_c is too high when antiferromagnetism is underestimated? --- An understanding based on the phase string effect

open access: yes, 1999
It is natural for a Mott antiferromagnetism in RVB description to become a superconductor in doped metallic regime. But the issue of superconducting transition temperature is highly nontrivial, as the AF fluctuations in the form of RVB pair-breaking are ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
