Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Competitive manufacturing for reshoring textile and clothing supply chains to high-cost environment – A delphi approach

open access: yes, 2017
Existing knowledge of reshoring, enabled largely by competitive manufacturing (CM) strategies in high-cost locations, is limited particularly in context to labour-intensive industries, like textile and clothing (T&C).

Consumer perceptions, expectations and concerns regarding Short Food Supply Chains

open access: yes, 2021
Consumer behavior and perceptions of the food chain is important for the emergence of mass market alternatives. The central objective of the SMARTCHAIN project is to foster and accelerate the shift towards collaborative short food supply chains (SFSC ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Value in short food supply chains

open access: yesScientific Papers of Silesian University of Technology. Organization and Management Series
Purpose: This study examines consumer preferences in Short Food Supply Chains (SFSCs) to identify key factors influencing purchasing decisions. The research aims to bridge the gap in understanding consumer-perceived value in SFSCs and provide practical insights for producers and policymakers. Design/methodology/approach: The study employs Q-methodology,

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Les organisations logistiques à promouvoir dans le cadre des Politiques de Transport Durable de Marchandises : la question des circuits de proximité

open access: yesDéveloppement Durable et Territoires, 2013
Among the many virtues associated with short supply chains, the reduction of transport and logistics needs and the use of alternative coordination process are considered as potential positive effects for sustainable transport policies.
