Unusual conditions for Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii Brandt) spawning
Journal of Applied Ichthyology, 2006Spawning of Siberian sturgeon A. baerii was induced hormonally using mammalian gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue GnRHa ([D-Ala(6), Des Gly(10)]-LHRH Ethylamide) in Uruguay (35 degrees S) and results were compared with treatments made in France (45 degrees N). Testosterone, estradiol-17 beta and 17, 20 beta-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17, 20 beta P)

The Blood Indicators of Siberian Sturgeon Welfare
2017Animal welfare science is expanding rapidly. The use of physiological indicators is one of the most investigated ways in which to evaluate welfare. Blood samples are minimally invasive; they enable successive sampling of the same individuals and provide access to a large range of indicators from numerous physiological functions.

Hybrids of the Siberian Sturgeon
2017It is known that all sturgeon species when crossed (both interspecific and intergeneric crossings) allow to produce viable offspring, whereupon breeding of various hybrids of Siberian sturgeon is of practical importance for commercial or caviar sturgeon farming in various climatic and technological conditions.

Russian Journal of Developmental Biology, 2011
Dispermic androgenesis was used to produce, for the first time, an androgenetic progeny of the Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii) and the androgenetic nucleo-cytoplasmic hybrids (Siberian sturgeon, A. baerii × Russian sturgeon, A. gueldenstaedtii) using cryopreserved sperm. Microsatellite DNA analysis confirmed exclusively paternal inheritance in the

Weaning in Siberian Sturgeon Larvae
2017In this chapter we have revised the available information regarding feeding practices with Siberian sturgeon larvae from the onset of exogenous feeding to the early juvenile stage, data gathered from published studies and compared and/or complemented with current practices from French hatcheries.

Swimming Characteristics of the Siberian Sturgeon
2017The Siberian sturgeon, Acipenser baerii Brandt, widely distributed throughout all major rivers in Siberia, inhabits the largest range compared to other sturgeon species. Nowadays, the Siberian sturgeon is the main species for sturgeon aquaculture in several countries.

Early Ontogeny in the Siberian Sturgeon
2017This chapter is a synthesis of published information describing the development of Siberian sturgeon during the embryonic (from fertilization to hatching), prelarval (from hatching to the onset of exogenous feeding) and larval (from first feeding to the juvenile stage) periods.

Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii in the River Pechora
Journal of Ichthyology, 2007The paper reports the first reliable capture since the last 150 yr of two sturgeons in the basin of the River Pechora. Both specimens had the systematic traits of the Siberian sturgeon Acipenser baerii but differed significantly in external morphology. Data on biological traits and morphological parameters of the fish are presented.

New extender for cryopreservation of Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii) semen
Cryobiology, 2015The goal of this study was to develop a simple glucose-methanol extender for cryopreservation of Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii) semen. Semen quality was assessed by determining post-thaw sperm motility and fertilizing ability at hatching stage. We tested the effect of glucose concentration (0, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.30 M) in a methanol extender ...

Reproductive Cycles in Sturgeons with a Special Focus on the Farmed Siberian Sturgeon
2017The chapter reports the published data on biological cycles and/or puberty in sturgeons for both wild and farmed brood stocks. There are three main lines to document these data, the analysis of large-scale sampling or landings, the analysis of sampling with previously tagged fish and the echography which has a remarkable efficacy.
