Reactive Carbide‐Based Synthesis and Microstructure of NASICON Sodium Metal All Solid‐State Electrolyte

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Sodium Metal All‐Solid State Batteries (Na‐ASSBs) are enabled by the synthesis of the solid state electrolyte, NASICON (Na1+xZr2SixP3‐xO12), using carbide‐based precursor compounds (ZrC and SiC); resulting in dense, pure, and mechanically improved microstructure.

The relations of quality of life in patients with lupus erythematosus: Regression models versus qualitative comparative analysis(sic)(sic)(sic)(sic)(sic)(sic)(sic)(sic):(sic)(sic)(sic)(sic)(si c)(sic)(sic)(sic)(sic)(sic)

open access: yes, 2019
Background Lupus erythematosus (LE) is an autoimmune disease that can have negative repercussions on the quality of life (QL) of those who suffer from it. The QL can be influenced by socio-demographic factors are related to the disease itself. Aims To analyse the associative power of socio-demographic (age and sex) and medical variables (type of lupus,

Spectral Tuning of Hyperbolic Shear Polaritons in Monoclinic Gallium Oxide via Isotopic Substitution

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Spectral tuning of highly directional hyperbolic shear polaritons is realized via isotopic substitution of 16O to 18O in monoclinic β$\beta$‐phase gallium oxide. A red‐shift of almost 40 cm−1 is experimentally demonstrated with near‐field imaging, corroborated by the permittivity change extracted from far‐field experiments and density functional theory.

In Situ Amine Formation to Modulate MOF‐Derived PdIn N‐Doped Carbon Catalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An amine‐assisted approach converts PdIn‐MOF into PdIn intermetallic nanoparticles embedded in N‐doped carbon. In situ‐generated amines trigger early Pd nucleation, producing smaller PdIn domains than direct pyrolysis. Amine sterics and basicity tune composition and particle size, while solvent and amine co‐determine textural features.

On‐Surface Synthesis of Bismuth Monolayers through Ice‐Confined Redox Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report an ice‐confined growth strategy for the synthesis of atomically thin 2D bismuth and related 2D metals. This approach involves rapid freezing of a BiCl3 aqueous solution on an aluminum foil using liquid nitrogen, which triggers interfacial redox reactions between the ice and the aluminum surface.
