Impact of Isovolemic Hemodilution‐Red Cell Exchange on Health‐Related Quality of Life in Patients With Sickle Cell Disease: A Pilot Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Apheresis, Volume 41, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Sickle cell disease (SCD) negatively affects health‐related quality of life (HRQoL). Isovolemic hemodilution (IHD) red‐cell exchange (RCE) is being increasingly used to treat SCD‐related complications, but its impact on HRQoL has not been characterized.

A systematic review of brain health in adults with chronic pain

open access: yesAnaesthesia, Volume 81, Issue 2, Page 248-262, February 2026.
Summary Introduction Recent research has linked chronic pain with an increased risk of clinical dementia diagnosis. Yet structural and functional brain changes associated with chronic pain and their potential role in accelerating brain ageing have not been characterised comprehensively.

Avascular Necrosis and Minimal Trauma Fractures in Telomere Biology Disorders

open access: yesClinical Genetics, Volume 109, Issue 2, Page 286-293, February 2026.
Avascular Necrosis (AVN) and Minimal Trauma Fractures (MTF) cause significant morbidity in people with Telomere Biology Disorders (TBDs). They occur more frequently in young patients and in those with autosomal recessive (AR) or X‐linked recessive (XLR) than in autosomal dominant (AD) genotypes.

Parents' experiences of having a child who had a stroke: A systematic review and meta‐ethnography

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 68, Issue 2, Page 187-198, February 2026.
Key elements of parents' experiences consisted of three parts: influencing factors, trajectory, and impact. Unawareness of childhood stroke and insufficient healthcare support were key influencing factors highlighted by parents, and normative ideals were found to be particularly influential.

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, Volume 600, Issue 2, Page 239-250, January 2026.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.
