A Digital Demodulator for PSK Signals

A discrete-time mixed-signal Gaussian frequency-shift keying demodulator designed for a low intermediate frequency Bluetooth receiver performs FSK demodulation. Employing passive sampling and time-domain differentiation techniques, the demodulator performs quadrature demodulation while tolerating up to 200-kHz frequency offset.

Parallel demodulation of multidimensional signals

The design of constellations that allow a high degree of parallelism in the staged decoder structure and in addition allow soft decoding of the component algebraic codes based on a systolic algorithm amenable to VLSI implementation is considered. Combination of these multidimensional constellations with trellis-coded modulation (TCM) is also considered.

A demodulator is proposed that exploits the by-produced image of a weak signal, which is suppressed by a strong interfering one in a bandpass limiter, to recover 3-dB from the well-known 6-dB weak-by-strong-signal suppression effect.

Robust demodulation of wideband signals

Asymptotically robust algorithms for demodulation of phase-modulated signals in the presence of noise with an unknown distribution are obtained on the basis of the invariance and minimax principles. Stable quality indices of the algorithms are achieved in the case when the noise level and the shape of its distribution are a priori uncertain.

Optical demodulation of THz signals

We present an all optical technique to demodulate THz signals on optical carriers using a standard optical phase modulator and an RF synthesizer. Noise floor as low as -95 dBc/Hz is reached at 700 GHz.
