Signal transducers and activators of transcription—from cytokine signalling to cancer biology
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Reviews on Cancer, 2011Signal transducers and activators of transcription (STATs) are, as the name indicates, both signal transducers and transcription factors. STATs are activated by cytokines and some growth factors and thus control important biological processes. These include cell growth, cell differentiation, apoptosis and immune responses.

The role of signal transducers and activators of transcription in colon cancer
Frontiers in Bioscience, 2008A family of latent cytoplasmic transcription factors, Signal Transducers and Activators of Transcription (STATs), convey signals from numerous cytokines and growth factors to the nucleus. Their expression and their activity have been shown to be perturbed in a variety of malignancies, including colorectal cancer.
