Introgressive Hybridization between Bighead Carp and Silver Carp in the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers

North American Journal of Fisheries Management, 2010
Abstract Asian carps are classified as either bighead carp Hypophthalmichthys nobilis or silver carp H. molitrix by multiple presumptively diagnostic morphological characteristics; however, hybrids pose a dilemma. Fish sharing the morphological characteristics of both species were observed in an Illinois River backwater (Calhoun County ...

Relative growth, survival and harvestability of bighead carp, silver carp, and their reciprocal hybrids

Aquaculture, 1984
Abstract Growth and survival in the primary rearing phase (42 days) for bighead carp, silver carp, bighead × silver carp (BHC × SC), and silver × bighead carp (SC × BHC) in ponds and concrete tanks stocked at 370 500 fry/ha were studied. Mean survival for fishes in ponds was 93%, that in tanks was 73%. Yields among all fishes averaged 338 kg/ha.

Ontogenetic changes in meristic measurements of silver carp and bighead carp.

Dong wu xue yan jiu = Zoological research, 2016
The study analyzed 30 exterior meristic characters for 255 silver and bighead carp samples of 1- to 5-year-old collected from the National Primary Breeding Farm at Laojianghe Lake at the Middle Reach of the Yangtze River. Multivariate analysis was performed.

Sedation of Grass Carp and Silver Carp with 2-Phenoxyethanol during Spawning

The Progressive Fish-Culturist, 1992
Abstract Grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) and silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) were induced to spawn in indoor tanks. Brood stock were sedated during injection and stripping by adding 2-phenoxyethanol at 0.2 mL/L. 2-Phenoxyethanol has no effect on sperm motility at this concentration.

Microcystis aeruginosa aggravated arsenic accumulation in silver carp during silver carp controlling algal bloom in arsenic-contaminated water

Journal of Environmental Sciences
Silver carp mediated biological control techniques are often advocated for controlling cyanobacteria blooms in eutrophic water, which are often enriched with arsenic (As). However, the transfer and fate of As during the biological control of cyanobacteria blooms by silver carp in As-rich eutrophic water remain unclear.

[Unusual structure of the biliary system in the liver of the grass carp and the silver carp].

Biulleten' eksperimental'noi biologii i meditsiny, 1986
It is known that the bile canaliculus in the liver of almost all vertebrates is made up of membranes of two or more adjacent liver cells. Studying the liver cell ultrastructure of lasting and fed grass carp and silver carp, it was demonstrated that a bile canaliculus is formed by deep invagination of a cell membrane of one hepatocyte.

Silver carp in the reservoirs of Central Russia

Byulleten' Moskovskogo Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody Otdel Biologicheskii
The article examines certain aspects of the biology of the silver carp, which allowed it to become a dominant species in reservoirs of various types in Central Russia in a relatively short period of time (the 90s of the twentieth century). The results of calculations of the dominance index and correlation analysis showed that the silver crucian ...
