Cross‐species amplification in silver carp and bighead carp with microsatellite primers of common carp

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Notes, 2002
AbstractAbout a third of microsatellite primers designed for common carp (Cyprinus carpio) was successfully amplified in silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and bighead carp (Aristichthys nobilis). These markers, inherited in Mendelian mode, are of potential applications in cypinid genetics.

Risk assessment of microcystins in silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) from eight eutrophic lakes in China

open access: yesFood Chemistry, 2013
Bioaccumulation and risk assessment of microcystins (MCs) in muscle of silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) from eight eutrophic lakes along the Yangtze River of China were examined by using liquid chromatography electrospray ionisation mass ...

Effects of temperature on metabolic scaling in silver carp

Journal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, 2021
AbstractThe association between temperature and metabolic scaling varies among species, which could be due to variation in the surface area and its scaling. This study aims to examine the effect of temperature on metabolic scaling and to verify the links between metabolic scaling and surface area scaling at both the whole body and the cell levels.

Lactococcosis in Silver Carp

Journal of Aquatic Animal Health, 2014
Abstract An adult Silver Carp Hypophthalmichthys molitrix with a focally extensive skin lesion near the caudal peduncle and mild iridial hemorrhage was submitted to the Aquatic Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (ARDL) in Stoneville, Mississippi, as part of a fish kill investigation.

Rhabdomyosarcoma in a Silver Carp

Journal of Aquatic Animal Health, 2016
Abstract Rhabdomyosarcoma is a primitive neoplasm that originates from skeletal muscle progenitor cells. In a routine inspection of a cyprinid farm in southwestern Iran, an approximately 2-year-old female Silver Carp was observed to have a raised mass located on the dorsolateral surface just caudal to the head.

Vibrational heat capacity of silver carp collagen

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2020
The study of the experimental and calculated heat capacity, Cp of fish collagen (silver carp) with contents of several additive components was presented. The experimental low-temperature heat capacity was measured in the temperature range of 1.85 to 302.8 K using a Quantum Design Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS) and the higher temperature Cp

Toxicity of Rotenone and Antimycin to Silver Carp and Bighead Carp

North American Journal of Fisheries Management, 2009
AbstractThe general public, natural resource managers, and government agencies have become increasingly concerned about the continued spread of silver carp Hypophthalmichthys molitrix and bighead carp H. nobilis in the Mississippi River basin and their potential spread into the Great Lakes.

Distribution and Status of the Bighead Carp and Silver Carp in Arkansas

North American Journal of Fisheries Management, 1982
Abstract Bighead carp (Aristichthys nobilis) and/or the silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) are being utilized at six hatcheries and have been purposely stocked at four research sites in Arkansas. Reports of silver carp in Arkansas' public waters in January 1980 prompted this investigation.
