Microgravity-Grown Crystals as Seeds for Pharmaceutical Compounds

open access: yes
Polymorph formation of pharmaceutical agents continues to be a challenge for the industry. Using seeds to provide the desired polymorphic form is a practice that circumvents this obstacle.

A single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation affording photochromic

open access: yes, 2019
Metal-organic framework (MOF) type crystals in which rigid, viologen-based pillars are surrounded by cucurbit[7]uril (CB[7]) macrocycles are described. These metal-organic rotaxane frameworks (MORF) are obtained by desolvation of a crystal precursor featuring a network already near-optimal toward 3D metal-ligand reticulation and show reversible ...

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy on Pr0.68Pb0.32MnO3 Single Crystals

open access: yes, 2007
Scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy studies were carried out on single crystals of colossal magnetoresistive manganite Pr0.68Pb0.32MnO3 at different temperatures in order to probe their spatial homogeneity across the metal-insulator transition ...

Composition‐Tuned Enhancement of the Anomalous Nernst Effect in FeCo–Pt Thin Films on Rigid and Flexible Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

Wet etching and infrared absorption of AlN bulk single crystals

open access: yes, 2009
The defects and the lattice perfection of an AlN (0001) single crystal grown by the physical vapor transport (PVT) method were investigated by wet etching, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and infrared absorption, respectively.

Secondary Phase CeO2 Precipitates in Ce,Er-Doped Na0.5La0.5MoO4 Single Crystals Grown by Czochralski Method

open access: yes
Analytical scanning and transmission electron microscopy were used to study the microstructure of Ce,Er-doped Na0.5La0.5MoO4 laser crystals. Crystals were grown by the Czochralski method from the melts with a nominal composition of Na0.5La0.5−xCexEr0 ...
