Phase response characteristics of sinoatrial node cells

open access: yesComputers in Biology and Medicine, 2007
In this work, the dynamic response of the sinoatrial node (SAN), the natural pacemaker of the heart, to short external stimuli is investigated using the Zhang et al. model. The model equations are solved twice for the central cell and for the peripheral cell.

Effect of Cilnidipine on L- and T-type Calcium Currents in Guinea Pig Ventricle and Action Potential in Rabbit Sinoatrial Node

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2004
Cilnidipine, a dihydropyridine Ca2+ channel antagonist, is known to have inhibitory effects on both L- and N-type Ca2+ currents. In the present study, we examined the effect of cilnidipine on myocardial L- and T-type Ca2+ currents and sinoatrial node ...

Rhythm Generating Mechanisms in Rat Sinoatrial Node

open access: yesCurrent Medical Issues
Background: The major membrane currents responsible for sinoatrial (SA) rhythm generation are generally studied in isolated cardiac cells using electrophysiological tools. Such studies are resource and labor-intensive.

The Evolution of Sinoatrial Node Function in Man [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
The function of the sinoatrial node is complex. In nearly all hearts, this small bit of tissue is responsible for spontaneously generating the impulse which will be distributed to the remainder of the heart, maintaining coordinated electrical and ...

Cytosolic calcium ions exert a major influence on the firing rate and maintenance of pacemaker activity in guinea-pig sinus node [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The sino-atrial node (SAN) provides the electrical stimulus to initiate every heart beat. Cellular processes underlying this activity have been debated extensively, especially with regards to the role of intracellular calcium.

Rare Case of Rapidly Worsening REM Sleep Induced Bradycardia

open access: yesCase Reports in Cardiology, 2015
Sinoatrial arrest also known as sinus pause occurs when sinoatrial node of the heart transiently ceases to generate the electrical impulse necessary for the myocardium to contract. It may last from 2.0 seconds to several minutes. Etiologies of sinoatrial

Simplified 2D Bidomain Model of Whole Heart Electrical Activity and ECG Generation

open access: yesMeasurement Science Review, 2014
The aim of this study was the development of a geometrically simple and highly computationally-efficient two dimensional (2D) biophysical model of whole heart electrical activity, incorporating spontaneous activation of the sinoatrial node (SAN), the ...

Integrative Approach - New Level Knowledge of Functions: Opportunities and Prospects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this article, the example of the mechanisms of heart rhythmogenesis in the intact organism is used to demonstrate the new capabilities provided by an integrative approach. It is shown that the rhythm is formed in the brain, transmitted to the heart in

Cyclic AMP reverses the effects of aging on pacemaker activity and If in sinoatrial node myocytes

open access: yesThe Journal of General Physiology, 2017
Aerobic capacity decreases with age, in part because of an age-dependent decline in maximum heart rate (mHR) and a reduction in the intrinsic pacemaker activity of the sinoatrial node of the heart.
