Urban scale risk assessment including SSI and site amplification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Large-scale risk analysis is typically performed considering existing fragility curves, calculated in most cases without adequately accounting for local site amplification (SA) and soil-structure interaction (SSI) effects.

Theoretical solution of site amplification coefficient

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2019
The site coefficient is a key index for considering the seismic site effects in various national and regional standards, which determines the criterion of earthquake-resistant design, but there exist significant differences between domestic and foreign ...

Seismic risk assessment of architectural heritages in Gyeongju considering local site effects [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2013
A seismic risk assessment is conducted for cultural heritage sites in Gyeongju, the capital of Korea's ancient Silla Kingdom. Gyeongju, home to UNESCO World Heritage sites, contains remarkable artifacts of Korean Buddhist art.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Determination of Site amplification in the Campania-Lucania Region (southern Italy) by comparison of different Site-Response Estimation Techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We have applied a non-linear inversion technique to estimate both the earthquake source parameters and site response from a set of microearthquake records acquired by a dense seismic network, in order to provide a simple uniform site classification for ...

Probability of Liquefaction for Pit Disassembly and Conversion Facility (PDCF) Site, Savannah River Site [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This report documents the probability of liquefaction (POL) for the Pit Disassembly and Conversion Facility (PDCF). The procedure for analysis of a critical layer of interest requires the following basic steps: (1) establish the probability of occurrence

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Forensic Applications of Whole Genome Amplification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Whole genome amplification (WGA) has been touted as a possible technique to augment fragment analysis of STRs in amplifying low-levels of DNA recovered from crime scenes or items.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
