Variability of selected indicators of physical activity in a randomized sample of the Czech population between the years 2003–2006: Results from the short and long self administered format of the IPAQ questionnaire [Variabilita vybraných indikátorů pohybové aktivity u randomizovaných souborů české populace v letech 2003–2006: Výsledky z krátké a dlouhé administrativní verze IPAQ dotazníku]

open access: yesActa Universitatis Palackianae Olomucensis. Gymnica, 2009
BACKGROUND: The effort to gain worldwide data on the levels of physical activity (PA) of different populations, which would be comparable, led to the creation and standardization of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). OBJECTIVE: The

Musculo-skeletal and pulmonary effects of sitting position – a systematic review

open access: yes, 2017
Introduction Year after year, we spend an increasing amount of time in a sitting position. Often, we sit with poor posture, as indicated by numerous pain syndromes within the musculoskeletal system.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

The Regulate your Sitting Time (RESIT) intervention for reducing sitting time in individuals with type 2 diabetes : findings from a randomised-controlled feasibility trial [PDF]

open access: yes
Background Reducing and breaking up sitting is recommended for optimal management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Yet, there is limited evidence of interventions targeting these outcomes in individuals with this condition.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Bone mineral density and accelerometer-determined habitual physical activity and inactivity in postmenopausal women [Kostní denzita a habituální pohybová aktivita a inaktivita u postmenopauzálních žen]

open access: yesActa Universitatis Palackianae Olomucensis. Gymnica, 2011
BACKGROUND: In postmenopausal women, physical activity appears to be important in preventing loss of bone mineral density (BMD) and osteoporosis and thus contributes to the reduction of fracture risk.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

[Photograph of a Man Sitting on a Rope Tied to a Tree]

open access: yes
Negative of a man sitting on a rope tied to a tree. He is sitting several feet off the ground with one hand on a tree branch and the other holding the rope. He is wearing overalls, a long-sleeved shirt, and boots. A hat is resting on a branch in the tree.
