Cannabinoid Attenuation of Intestinal Inflammation in Chronic SIV-Infected Rhesus Macaques Involves T Cell Modulation and Differential Expression of Micro-RNAs and Pro-inflammatory Genes

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
Cannabis use is frequent in HIV-infected individuals for its appetite stimulation and anti-inflammatory effects. To identify the underlying molecular mechanisms associated with these effects, we simultaneously profiled micro-RNA (miRNA) and mRNA ...

Sharp Diamond Needles for Single‐Photon Emission

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
We study the morphological evolution of single‐crystal diamond needles oxidized at 650–700 °C. Electron microscopy and photoluminescence reveal temperature‐ and time‐dependent sharpening, length reduction, and surface modifications affecting tip properties.

The molecular evolution of the most dangerous emerging virus infections

open access: yesAnnals of Mechnikov's Institute, 2020
In this paper we reviewed what is known about the emerging viruses, the hosts that they originate in, and the molecular events that drive their emergence.

Multimorbidity and animal models

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Multimorbidity, defined as the coexistence of ≥2 chronic conditions, is associated with aging, genetics, and environmental factors. Animal models in multimorbidity research span three tiers: simple organisms for initial screening → rodents for mechanistic analysis → large mammals for clinical prediction.

Evaluation of recombinant influenza virus-simian immunodeficiency virus vaccines in macaques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
There is an urgent need for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) vaccines that induce robust mucosal immunity. Influenza A viruses (both H1N1 and H3N2) were engineered to express simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) CD8 T-cell epitopes and evaluated ...

Sustainability Practices in SMEs: An Explorative Study on Ethnic Minority–Owned SMEs in the United Kingdom

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The application of firm sustainability practices (FSP) in ethnic minority–owned small and medium–sized enterprises (ESMEs) has received significantly less scholarly focus, making ESME FSP an emerging academic field. This study aims to explore the factors influencing ethnic minority–owned SMEs involved in FSP and identify the factors hindering ...

Stage-Dependent Within-Individual Comparison Reveals SIV-Specific Activation/Exhaustion Shift in Rhesus Macaques

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
It is challenging to trace the complicated individual-based variations of HIV-specific immunocompetence shift during the successful antiretroviral therapy (ART) era.

A Meeting of Minds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Working collaboratively with other organisations is not a new phenomenon. At present however, charities are under pressure to collaborate more to cope with an uncertain political landscape, reductions in funding and the need to work more efficiently ...
