Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Shaving area of unwanted hair before laser operation is useful in cosmetic procedure: A simulation study

open access: yesJournal of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, 2015
In laser dermatology applications, the process of photon absorption, the reflectance and the thermal energy diffusion in the target tissue and its surrounding tissue during laser irradiation is crucial.

On the Origin of Polarization near the Lyman Edge in Quasars [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Optical/UV radiation from accretion disks in quasars is likely to be partly scattered by a hot plasma enveloping the disk. We investigate whether the scattering may produce the steep rises in polarization observed blueward of the Lyman limit in some ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Skin Barrier Function in Infants: Update and Outlook

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2022
A good understanding of infant skin should provide a rationale for optimum management of the health of this integument. In this review, we discuss the skin barrier function of infants, particularly with reference to the use of diapers and baby wipes. The

Monte Carlo Analysis of Optical Interactions in Reflectance and Transmittance Finger Photoplethysmography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a non-invasive photometric technique that measures the volume changes in arterial blood. Recent studies have reported limitations in developing and optimising PPG-based sensing technologies due to unavailability of the ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Skin absorption through atopic dermatitis skin: a systematic review

open access: yesBritish Journal of Dermatology, 2017
Patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) have skin barrier impairment in both lesional and nonlesional skin. They are typically exposed daily to emollients and intermittently to topical anti-inflammatory medicaments, thereby increasing the risk of developing contact allergy and systemic exposure to chemical ingredients found in these topical preparations ...

Permeability of frog skin to chemicals: effect of penetration enhancers

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
Rarely do commercial chemical products contain solely the active chemical/ingredient. It is therefore important to consider whether ingredients other than the active may: 1) alter absorption of the active chemical, or 2) be absorbed themselves, resulting

In vitro and ex-vivo evaluation of topical formulations designed to minimize transdermal absorption of Vitamin K1. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Topical application of Vitamin K1 has been demonstrated to effectively treat papulopustular skin rash, a serious and frequently encountered side effect of Epidermal Growth Factor Inhibitors (EGFRIs).
