Chemoprevention of nonmelanoma skin cancer: experience with a polyphenol from green tea. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Nonmelanoma skin cancer is extremely common and is increasing in incidence. It would be very useful to have forms of therapy that would prevent precancerous changes from going on to form cancer, or to reverse the precancerous changes.

The IFNγ‐CIITA‐MHC II axis modulates melanoma cell susceptibility to NK‐cell‐mediated cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Natural killer (NK) cells play a central role in anti‐melanoma immunity. However, melanoma cells adapt during co‐culture by upregulating CIITA and MHC II in response to interferon gamma (IFNγ), thereby evading NK‐cell lysis. Blocking IFNγ signaling or treatment with dimethyl fumarate/simvastatin counteracts this immune escape and maintains NK‐cell ...

The efficacy and safety of sunscreen use for the prevention of skin cancer

open access: yesCanadian Medical Association Journal, 2020
KEY POINTS In Canada, more than 80 000 cases of skin cancer are diagnosed every year.[1][1] Because exposure to ultraviolet radiation is estimated to be associated with 80%–90% of skin cancers, the use of sunscreen — which blocks ultraviolet radiation ...

Meta‐analysis of the association between sodium‐glucose co‐transporter‐2 inhibitors and risk of skin cancer among patients with type 2 diabetes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A slight increase in melanoma risk was observed among sodium‐glucose co‐transporter‐2 (SGLT‐2) inhibitor users in the regular reports. However, the association remains uncertain.

Tumor and germline testing with next generation sequencing in epithelial ovarian cancer: a prospective paired comparison using an 18‐gene panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Genetic testing in epithelial ovarian cancer includes both germline and tumor‐testing. This approach often duplicates resources. The current prospective study assessed the feasibility of tumor‐first multigene testing by comparing tumor tissue with germline testing of peripheral blood using an 18‐gene NGS panel in 106 patients.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for Automatic Skin Cancer Classification System

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
Skin cancer is a type of cancer that grows in the skin tissue, which can cause damage to the surrounding tissue, disability, and even death. In Indonesia, skin cancer is the third leading for most cancer cases after cervical and breast cancer.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Nonmelanoma skin cancer

open access: yesJournal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery, 2012
Nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) represents the most common form of cancer in Caucasians, with continuing increase in incidence worldwide. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) accounts for 75% of cases of NMSC, and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) accounts for the remaining majority of NMSC cases.
