Depletion of G9A attenuates imiquimod-induced psoriatic dermatitis via targeting EDAR-NF-κB signaling in keratinocyte

open access: yesCell Death and Disease, 2023
Psoriasis is a common and recurrent inflammatory skin disease characterized by inflammatory cells infiltration of the dermis and excessive proliferation, reduced apoptosis, and abnormal keratosis of the epidermis.

Incidence Estimate of Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer (Keratinocyte Carcinomas) in the U.S. Population, 2012.

open access: yesJAMA dermatology, 2015
IMPORTANCE Understanding skin cancer incidence is critical for planning prevention and treatment strategies and allocating medical resources. However, owing to lack of national reporting and previously nonspecific diagnosis classification, accurate ...

CONTRASTING EFFECTS OF AN MDM2 FUNCTIONAL POLYMORPHISM ON TUMOR PHENOTYPES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cancer predisposition by the cooperation of genetic variants, such as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), may be of much greater significance to public health than previously appreciated.

Escape from TGF‐β‐induced senescence promotes aggressive hallmarks in epithelial hepatocellular carcinoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Promoting Skin Cancer Awareness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the nation and the cost to treat it is around 8 billion dollars a year. Sun exposure is linked to all three types of skin cancer and incidence of melanoma is highest in Caucasians compared to other races.

Integrative DNA methylome analysis of pan-cancer biomarkers in cancer discordant monozygotic twin-pairs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: A key focus in cancer research is the discovery of biomarkers that accurately diagnose early lesions in non-invasive tissues. Several studies have identified malignancy-associated DNA methylation changes in blood, yet no general cancer ...

Direct transdifferentiation of tumorigenic melanoma cells induces tumor cell reversion

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
Melanoma is an aggressive skin cancer and highly lethal at advanced stages due to its high tumorigenicity and metastatic capacity. Changing the phenotype of cancer cells from one lineage to another, a process called transdifferentiation, leads to tumor ...

BAP1 tumor predisposition syndrome case report: pathological and clinical aspects of BAP1-inactivated melanocytic tumors (BIMTs), including dermoscopy and confocal microscopy

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2019
Background BRCA1 associated-protein 1 (BAP1) tumor predisposition syndrome is associated with an increased risk for malignant mesotheliomas, uveal and cutaneous melanomas, renal cell carcinomas, and singular cutaneous lesions.

ShcD adaptor protein drives invasion of triple negative breast cancer cells by aberrant activation of EGFR signaling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identified adaptor protein ShcD as upregulated in triple‐negative breast cancer and found its expression to be correlated with reduced patient survival and increased invasion in cell models. Using a proteomic screen, we identified novel ShcD binding partners involved in EGFR signaling pathways.
