Applying the adverse outcome pathway (AOP) for food sensitization to support in vitro testing strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background Before introducing proteins from new or alternative dietary sources into the market, a compressive risk assessment including food allergic sensitization should be carried out in order to ensure their safety.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

A Case Report of a Successful Allergen Immunotherapy with Candida Albicans in Patient with Sever Atopic Dermatitis Sensitive to Candida Albicans [PDF]

open access: yesPatient Safety and Quality Improvement Journal, 2019
Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an inflammatory, chronic, relapsing, itchy skin disease with an immunologic basis. This disease is associated with itchy skin lesions (pruritus), dry skin (xerosis) and plaques of eczema. The role of aeroallergens,

Habituation to pain : a motivational-ethological perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Habituation to pain is mainly studied using external pain stimuli in healthy volunteers, often to identify the underlying brain mechanisms, or to investigate problems in habituation in specific forms of pain (eg, migraine).

Atopic Dermatitis Host and Environment Model: Revisiting Therapeutic Options [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Atopic Dermatitis affects both children and adults and is a serious health concern in many countries. AD is a complex disease with host and environmental factors underlying its pathology. Its treatment is multidimensional reflecting the diverse nature of

Sensitive skin is a neuropathic disorder [PDF]

open access: yesExperimental Dermatology, 2019
AbstractSensitive skin is defined by the occurrence of unpleasant sensations such as tingling, burning, tautness, itching or pain. Mechanisms explaining sensitive skin are controversial, and many hypotheses have been proposed. Because sensitive skin is primarily characterized by a wide variety of neuropathic‐like symptoms, it is highly likely that ...

The cooperative regulation of miR‐221 by APE1 and AUF1 impacts p27Kip1 defining a miR signature relevant for cervical cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A regulatory axis involving APE1, AUF1, and miR‐221 is proposed. Pri‐miR‐221 is processed by DROSHA and DICER to generate mature miR‐221, which targets p27Kip1 mRNA. APE1 and AUF1 compete for pre‐miR‐221 binding. Reduced APE1/AUF1 levels impair miR‐221 biogenesis, decrease p27Kip1 mRNA degradation, and promote cell cycle progression, chemoresistance ...

Novel cutaneous mediators of chemical allergy

open access: yesJournal of Immunotoxicology, 2019
Chemical allergy can manifest into allergic contact dermatitis and asthma and the importance of skin sensitization in both of these diseases is increasingly being recognized. Given the unique characteristics of chemical allergy, coupled with the distinct

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.
