Potential of Integrated Component-Driven Material Design to Improve Crash Box Performance

open access: yesMetals, 2023
The crushing of crash boxes is a complex phenomenon characterized by a strong interaction of structural and material properties. Many attempts to improve their energy absorption by adopting one aspect resulted in unacceptable unprogressive bucking. Thus,

Spontaneous Helical Alignment of Smooth Muscle Cells to Form a Medial Layer for Engineered Microvasculature

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Spontaneous helical alignment of smooth muscle cells is induced within resistance‐vessel‐sized channels patterned within a hydrogel. The extent of the cells’ orientation angle is dependent on the presence and composition of ECM proteins lining the channel wall and cell seeding density.

Resilient Critical Infrastructure Management using Service Oriented Architecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
—The SERSCIS project aims to support the use of interconnected systems of services in Critical Infrastructure (CI) applications. The problem of system interconnectedness is aptly demonstrated by ‘Airport Collaborative Decision Making’ (ACDM).

Gardiquimod Nanoemulsion Targets Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Lesions Reducing Systemic Toxicity and Parasite Burden

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoemulsion delivery of a TLR7 agonist enhances safety and promotes colocalization with Leishmania‐infected macrophages in skin lesions, enabling a ∼2‐log reduction in parasite burden. However, tissue‐level constraints and TLR‐driven regulatory feedback generate a mixed immune response that limits complete parasite clearance.

SLA Calculus

open access: yes, 2014
For modeling Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs) and validating worst-case performance guarantees a deterministic modeling method with efficient analysis is presented. Upper and lower bounds for delay and workload in systems are used to describe performance contracts. The SLA Calculus allows one to combine model descriptions for single systems and to

Swine leukocyte antigen class II genes (SLA-DRA, SLA-DRB1, SLA-DQA, SLA-DQB1) polymorphism and genotyping in Guizhou minipigs

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Research, 2015
The swine leukocyte antigen (SLA) complex harbors highly polymorphic gene clusters encoding glycoproteins that are involved in responses to vaccines, infectious disease, and production performance. Pigs with well-defined SLA class II genes are useful for the study of disease, immunology, and vaccines. In this study, we analyzed four SLA class II genes (

POM‐Based Water Splitting Catalyst Under Acid Conditions Driven by Its Assembly on Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A newly‐engineered POM‐based electrocatalyst incorporating non‐innocent counter cations exhibits fast kinetics for either the OER or HER under strongly acidic conditions (1 m H2SO4), depending on whether it is assembled on carbon nanotubes (1@CNT) or physically mixed with them (1/CNT). In water‐splitting tests using a two‐electrode setup, these systems
