Sliding order and sliding accuracy in sliding mode control

International Journal of Control, 1993
The synthesis of a control algorithm that stirs a nonlinear system to a given manifold and keeps it within this constraint is considered. Usually, what is called sliding mode is employed in such synthesis. This sliding mode is characterized, in practice, by a high-frequency switching of the control.

On the magic of SLIDE

Machine Vision and Applications, 1997
Subspace-based line detection (SLIDE) is a novel approach for straight line fitting that has recently been suggested by Aghajan and Kailath. It is based on an analogy made between a straight line in an image and a planar propagating wavefront impinging on an array of sensors.

Slide presentations

Journal of Audiovisual Media in Medicine, 1998
Although my discomfiture is directed at the lecturer, my criticism is of the slides used. I would like every lecturer and illustrator to vow never to use one slide if five will do better, and never to use a slide that needs a pointer.

Slide tracheoplasty

Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head & Neck Surgery, 2008
The current practice of slide tracheoplasty for children with long-segment tracheal stenosis is reviewed. In our own series, the mortality for children with long-segment tracheal stenosis managed by slide tracheoplasty in the 5-year period between 1995 and 2000 was 43% (3/7), consistent with other series in the literature.

Sliding and ATPase

Journal of Biochemistry, 1995
Sliding machines composed of F-actin and myosin or microtubules and kinesin or dynein convert the free energy of ATP hydrolysis into sliding movements and mechanical work. Development of optical microscopy with micromanipulation techniques has made possible direct observation of single events of sliding exhibited by single sliding machines.

Design for slides

Journal of Audiovisual Media in Medicine, 1995
The basic principles of design for projection slides are discussed, with particular reference to the impact of the personal computer and commercial presentation software on the material that is destined to end up on the screen at meetings and in seminar rooms.

The Slide of Education

Science, 2005
I recently started graduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley and have discovered that PowerPoint lectures have become ubiquitous across college campuses. Proponents of PowerPoint will argue that writing on the chalkboard takes too long and less material can be covered.
