Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Serum Lipid Reference Intervals of High-Density, Low-Density and Non-High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterols and Their Association with Atherosclerosis and Other Factors in Psittaciformes

open access: yesAnimals
Atherosclerosis is highly prevalent among captive psittacine populations and is a frequent cause of veterinary consultations. Ante-mortem diagnosis remains challenging, but the serum lipoprotein analysis has been suggested as a useful tool for ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

New record of the Oriental house rat, Rattus tanezumi, in Nepal inferred from mitochondrial Cytochrome B gene sequences

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2018
This study determines the presence of R. tanezumi from in Nepal using morphological and molecular analyses. Morphologically, it is indistinguishable with R. rattus owing to similar fur colour and morphometric data.

Observation of Mammalian Similarity Through Allometric Scaling Laws [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We discuss the problem of observation of natural similarity in skeletal evolution of terrestrial mammals. Analysis is given by means of testing of the power scaling laws established in long bone allometry, which describe development of bones (of length ...

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Influence of some environmental parameters on small mammals (Rodentia, Insectivora) in the Central Alps

open access: yesHystrix, the Italian Journal of Mammalogy, 1997
Abstract This paper points out the relationships occurring between small mammal populations studied in some areas of the central-Western italian Alpine Arch, and some environmental parameters that characterize the Alpine ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Antibiofilm activity of a chionodracine‐derived peptide by NMR‐based metabolomics of cell‐free supernatant of Acinetobacter baumannii clinical strains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KHS‐Cnd peptide is able to impair biofilm formation and disaggregate mature biofilms in Acinetobacter baumannii clinical isolates. Differences in extracellular metabolites reflect changes in biofilm metabolism due to KHS‐Cnd treatment. Among the differentially represented extracellular metabolites upon KHS‐Cnd treatment, the significantly altered ...

A case study of critical points for the entry and spread of Salmonella Infantis in a broiler farm

open access: yesIrish Veterinary Journal
Salmonella Infantis is a zoonotic pathogen that frequently persists in broiler production systems, posing a risk to food safety and animal health. Understanding its entry and spread in these systems can inform control measures and reduce contamination. A
