Snake venom metalloproteinases: structure/function relationships studies using monoclonal antibodies

open access: yesToxicon, 2003
Snake Venom Metalloproteinases (SVMPs) are synthesized as zymogens and undergo proteolytic processing resulting in a variety of multifunctional proteins. Jararhagin is a P-III SVMP, isolated from the venom of Bothrops jararaca, comprising metalloproteinase, disintegrin-like and cysteine-rich domains.

Progress of ADAM17 in Fibrosis‐Related Diseases

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Fibrosis leads to structural damage and functional decline and is characterized by an accumulation of fibrous connective tissue and a reduction in parenchymal cells. Because of its extremely poor prognosis, organ fibrosis poses a significant economic burden.

A proteomics and transcriptomics investigation of the venom from the Barychelid spider Trittame loki (brush-foot trapdoor) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Although known for their potent venom and ability to prey upon both invertebrate and vertebrate species, the Barychelidae spider family has been entirely neglected by toxinologists. In striking contrast, the sister family Theraphosidae (commonly known as

Metabolomics‐driven approaches for identifying therapeutic targets in drug discovery

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 5, Issue 11, November 2024.
Various metabolomics‐based methods were outlined that have been employed for target identification, such as dose–response metabolomics, stable isotope‐resolved metabolomics, mass spectrometry imaging metabolomics. Furthermore, the emerging potentials of target identification based on metabolomics, such as artificial intelligence, single‐cell ...

Variations in neurotoxicity and proteome profile of Malayan krait (Bungarus candidus) venoms.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Malayan krait (Bungarus candidus) is a medically important snake species found in Southeast Asia. The neurotoxic effects of envenoming present as flaccid paralysis of skeletal muscles.

The urgent need to develop novel strategies for the diagnosis and treatment of snakebites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Snakebite envenoming (SBE) is a priority neglected tropical disease, which kills over one hundred thousand people per year. However, many millions of survivors also suffer through disabilities and long-term health consequences.

VenomCap: An exon‐capture probe set for the targeted sequencing of snake venom genes

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 24, Issue 8, November 2024.
Abstract Snake venoms are complex mixtures of toxic proteins that hold significant medical, pharmacological and evolutionary interest. To better understand the genetic diversity underlying snake venoms, we developed VenomCap, a novel exon‐capture probe set targeting toxin‐coding genes from a wide range of elapid snakes, with a particular focus on the ...

The relationship between clinics and the venom of the causative Amazon pit viper (Bothrops atrox).

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2020
Snake venoms are complex mixtures of proteins with toxic activities, with many distinct isoforms, affecting different physiological targets, comprised in a few protein families.

Comparative proteomics of geographically distinct saw-scaled viper (Echis carinatus) venoms from India

open access: yesToxicon: X, 2020
Snakebite is a socio-economic problem in tropical countries and it is exacerbated by geographical venom variation of snakes. We investigated on venom variation in geographically distinct populations of Echis carinatus from three ecologically distinct ...
