Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

Modulation of social valence by insular cortex activity during acute social isolation in mice
For social animals, social isolation is a potential threat to survival, and therefore can be considered innately aversive. Long-term social isolation induces a variety of social and affective deficits and has been used as a stress model in animal studies,

Organoids in pediatric cancer research
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Social isolation was associated with emotional problems (depression and anxiety) among older adults, however, little is known in China. Thus, we conducted a cross-sectional study including 6,664 ≥ 65 years older adults in Ningbo, China. We collected data

CCT4 promotes tunneling nanotube formation
Tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) are membranous tunnel‐like structures that transport molecules and organelles between cells. They vary in thickness, and thick nanotubes often contain microtubules in addition to actin fibers. We found that cells expressing monomeric CCT4 generate many thick TNTs with tubulin.

Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.
