Association of serum levels and intakes of sodium and potassium with hypertension in the MASHAD cohort study population: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesJournal of Health, Population and Nutrition
Background and aim Hypertension is a major health problem and a risk factor for multiple diseases. In this study, we aimed to compare serum levels and the dietary intake of sodium and potassium in patients with hypertension and healthy participants of ...

Decoding the Integrated Stress Response of Pancreatic Cancer: Identifying a Serine‐dependent Tumor Subset Under Metabolic Relationships With CAFs.

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers identified a pancreatic cancer subset with low global protein synthesis but heightened translation of stress‐response genes like ATF4, rendering cells resistant to chemotherapy and apoptosis. These tumors depend on serine and cysteine from surrounding cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs), which shift to produce serine by curbing collagen ...

Connexin43 Deficiency Leads to Ventricular Arrhythmias by Reprogramming Proline Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study demonstrated that connexin43 (Cx43) knockout caused arrhythmic phenotype and decreased proline content in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, Cx43 interacts with the amino acid transporter SNAT2 (sodium‐dependent neutral amino acid transporter), and its deficiency disrupts proline transport and metabolism.

Moderating effect of a sodium-rich diet on the association between long-term exposure to fine particulate matter and blood lipids in children and adolescents

open access: yesBMC Pediatrics
Background Several studies reported that exposure to higher levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was associated with deteriorated lipid profiles in children and adolescents.

Neuroprotective Effects of Time‐Restricted Feeding Combined With Different Protein Sources in MPTP‐Induced Parkinson's Disease Mice Model and Its Modulatory Impact on Gut Microbiota Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) exerts protein‐dependent neuroprotective effects in an MPTP‐induced Parkinson's disease model. In casein‐fed mice, TRF improves gut barrier integrity and reduces neuroinflammation, possibly via modulation of Allobaculum and BCAAs.

Protection and Delivery of Phytochemicals from Passive Encapsulation to Guaranteed Self‐Assembly Induced by Amyloid Template for Chronic Disease Prevention via Modulating Microbial‐Host Crosstalk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The rising incidence of chronic diseases globally has drawn widespread attention to phytochemicals, which exert targeted preventive and alleviating effect by modulating gut microbiota; thus, a potential strategy for precision nutritional interventions is offered.

Metabolic risk factors, blood pressure and atherogenic indices of cardiovascular disease across different quartiles of dietary sodium to potassium ratio among young semi-professional athletes with overweight or obesity

open access: yesBMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation
Background Previous studies have revealed the role of the dietary sodium-to-potassium ratio in predicting cardiovascular and total mortality. However, a limited number of studies have investigated the association between the dietary sodium-to-potassium ...

SLC2A3‐Mediated Lactate Metabolism Promotes Lung Cancer Bone Metastasis by Modulating P53 Lactylation and Immune Evasion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SLC2A3 derived lactate promotes metastasis through p53 lactylation at K120 and osteoclast differentiation. Pharmacological inhibition of SLC2A3 upregulates PD‐1 expression on CD8+ T cells via lactate induced p53 lactylation, which modulates immune evasion. ABSTRACT Bone metastasis is a devastating consequence of lung cancer.

Genome‐Wide Association Study Reveals Insect Genetics and Microbial Symbiont Effects on Susceptibility of Diaphorina citri to the Citrus Greening Pathogen, Candidatus Liberibacter Asiaticus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates the genetic and microbial factors influencing the susceptibility of Diaphorina citri to the citrus greening pathogen Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), employing a microbiome Genome Wide Association Study. The research identifies a key gene encoding an MFS‐type transporter contributing to CLas infectivity and abundance in

Development of a screening method for determining sodium intake based on the Dietary Reference Intakes for Japanese, 2020: A cross-sectional analysis of the National Health and Nutrition Survey, Japan

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Background Although assessing nutrient intake through dietary surveys is desirable, it can be effort- and time-intensive. We aimed to develop a brief screening method for determining sodium intake in order to raise public awareness regarding the Dietary ...
