Biology of Human Sodium Glucose Transporters
There are two classes of glucose transporters involved in glucose homeostasis in the body, the facilitated transporters or uniporters (GLUTs) and the active transporters or symporters (SGLTs).

Inhibitor binding mode and allosteric regulation of Na+-glucose symporters. [PDF]
Sodium-dependent glucose transporters (SGLTs) exploit sodium gradients to transport sugars across the plasma membrane. Due to their role in renal sugar reabsorption, SGLTs are targets for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

TG Nonsense Variant in Dwarf Rottweiler Dogs
ABSTRACT We identified a dwarfism syndrome in six Rottweiler dogs characterized by reduced height and body weight; limb deformities, shortening of the tail and abnormally thick skin in puppies; developmental delays, pain and non‐goitrous hypothyroidism. Histological examination of the thyroid gland revealed severe chronic diffuse bilateral atrophy with

The sodium iodide symporter (NIS) transports iodide, which is necessary for thyroid hormone production. NIS also transports other monovalent anions such as tetrafluoroborate (BF4-), pertechnetate (TcO4-), and thiocyanate (SCN-), and is competitively ...

Direct assessment of substrate binding to the Neurotransmitter:Sodium Symporter LeuT by solid state NMR [PDF]
The Neurotransmitter:Sodium Symporters (NSSs) represent an important class of proteins mediating sodium-dependent uptake of neurotransmitters from the extracellular space.

Substrate for Thyroid Hormone Synthesis: Biochemistry, Evolution, and Physiology
Two proposed sequence of events for thyroxine formation in patients expressing mutant thyroglobulin. (A) (1) TSH stimulation drives expression of misfolded TG. (2) Unremitting ER stress. (3) Stress‐induced cell death. (4) Dead thyrocytes release their contents. (5) The contents become iodinated. (6) Forming thyroxine.

TNFα-mediated activation of NF-κB downregulates sodium-iodide symporter expression in thyroid cells
The sodium-iodide symporter (NIS) mediates transport of iodide across the basolateral membrane of thyroid cells. NIS expression in thyroid cancer (TC) cells allows the use of radioactive iodine (RAI) as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool, being RAI ...

Two dicarbadodecaborane(12)‐based dual cyclooxygenase‐2/5‐lipoxygenase (COX‐2/5‐LO) inhibitors were 123I‐labeled. Refinement of labeling and formulation conditions and extensive in vitro characterization are presented. Cell uptake studies in COX‐2‐ and 5‐LO‐overexpressing cell lines showed COX‐2‐independent and partly 5‐LO‐dependent uptake.
