Phenomenological and Physically Based Modeling of Flow Stress and Strengthening Mechanism of Inconel 718

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nickel‐based alloys are widely used in high‐temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical strength and oxidation resistance. However, properties such as high‐temperature strength and pronounced work‐hardening make them difficult to machine.

Microstructural Characterization of Surface Softening Behavior for Cu-Bearing Martensitic Steels after Laser Surface Heat Treatment

open access: yesMetals, 2018
The surface hardening and softening behavior of two types of medium carbon martensitic steel (AISI P20-improved and AISI P21) after laser-assisted heat treatment was quantitatively compared.

Analytical approach to the quantum-phase transition in the one-dimensional spinless Holstein model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We study the one-dimensional Holstein model of spinless fermions interacting with dispersion-less phonons by using a recently developed projector-based renormalization method (PRM).

Ethylene-regulation of fruit softening and softening-related genes in peach [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2006
To investigate the role of ethylene in peach fruit softening during ripening, stony hard peach fruit, in which ethylene production is suppressed during ripening, were treated with various concentrations of ethylene. There was no noticeable decrease in flesh firmness without ethylene treatment, while applied ethylene, in the range 0.1-100 microl l(-1 ...

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Indole-3-acetic acid treatment promotes postharvest kiwifruit softening by regulating starch and cell wall metabolism

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
The softening process of postharvest kiwifruit is a critical aspect of fruit quality that has been extensively studied. However, the impact of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) treatment on this process remains largely unexplored. In this study, we examined the

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Post-Cutting Hot Water Treatment of Pepper Fruit: Impact on Quality During Short-Term Storage

open access: yesAgronomy
Fresh-cut vegetables are gaining economic importance around the world. They are highly perishable products, and in the context of global food waste challenges, any new solutions to reduce losses are in line with the expectations of producers, traders ...

Spin-wave softening and Hund's coupling in ferromagnetic manganites

open access: yes, 2005
Using one-orbital model of hole-doped manganites, we show with the help of Holstein-Primakov transformation that finite Hund's coupling is responsible for the spin-wave softening in the ferromagnetic $B$-phase manganites.
