An ageing elasto-viscoplastic model for ceramics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This work has been achieved in the framework of the PLEIADES project, financially supported by CEA (Commissariat à l’Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives), EDF (Électricité de France) and AREVA.A model reproducing strain softening behavior in ...

Asymptotic solution of mode-iii crack in damaged softening materials

open access: yes, 1993
In this paper, a constitutive model of elasticity coupled with damage suggested by Lemaitre et al, [1] is used. The macroscopic stress-strain response of the model includes two stages: strain hardening and strain softening.

Electrified Damage in Motion Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The electrified damage in motion systems is a fundamental framework presenting the degradation pathway arising from the coupling of electrical energy transport with mechanical contact and interfacial chemistry. The framework positions electrified damage as a distinct degradation regime with unique characteristic surface morphologies and failures of ...

Characterization of Fruit Quality Attributes and Cell Wall Metabolism in 1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP)-Treated ‘Summer King’ and ‘Green Ball’ Apples During Cold Storage

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
This study aimed to elucidate whether 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatment delays the fruit softening mechanism associated with the fruit quality of the newly released apple cultivars “Summer King” and “Green Ball” during cold storage.

Comparison Of Shear Banding In Bmgs Due To Thermal-Softening And Free Volume Creation

open access: yes, 2008
This paper reports a comparative study of shear banding in BMGs resulting from thermal softening and free volume creation. Firstly, the effects of thermal softening and free volume creation on shear instability are discussed.

Hybrid Metal–Carbon Ink for Printed Stretchable Temperature Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We prepare conductive inks for temperature sensing with silver flakes and carbon or graphite flakes in a silicone elastomer matrix. Silver dominates the temperature‐dependent conductivity, while the carbon filler network ensures the stability of the conductive pathways and retains function under strain.

Water softening in Australia

open access: yes, 1989
Water softening for municipal water supplies is not widely practiced in Australia and as such the technology involved is not widely known. This report investigates the current practice of municipal water softening. Methods of softening are considered and

Stability analysis of unsaturated soil slope considering softening and non-softening approach

open access: yes, 2023
In conventional geotechnical engineering practice, peak shear strength parameters are widely used in the design of geo-structures constructed with or within unsaturated soils.

Mechanical Behavior and Fracture Mechanisms of MXene/PVDF Nanocomponsites: In Situ Characterization and Multiscale Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multiscale experiments and modeling reveal how Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets reinforce PVDF nanocomposites. An optimal MXene loading (∼1 wt.%) nearly doubles tensile strength through efficient stress transfer, flake alignment, and crack‐deflection mechanisms, transforming ductile polymer behavior into a controlled multi‐stage fracture pathway which aligns ...

Determination of the bilinear stress-crack opening curve for normal- and high-strength concrete

open access: yes, 2008
An improved version of the method proposed to ACI committee 446 and to RILEM TC 187-SOC to determine the fracture parameters of concrete is applied in this study to several mixtures of normal and high-strength concretes.
