Energy Deposition into the Ionosphere during a Solar Flare with Extreme-ultraviolet Late Phase
Solar extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) irradiance is the dominant energy source for ionizing and heating the Earth’s upper atmosphere. It is common to assume that the spectra of different EUV lines have the same trend to fill the solar EUV irradiance gap for ...

Energy spectra of ions from impulsive solar flares
A study of the energy spectra of ions from impulsive solar flares in the 0.1-100 MeV region is reported. Most of the events studied are dominated by He and these He spectra show a persistent steepening or break above about 10 MeV resulting in an increase in the power-law spectral indices from about 2 to about 3.5 or more.

ABSTRACT Personal autonomous vehicles can sense their surrounding environment, plan their route, and drive with little or no involvement of human drivers. Despite the latest technological advancements and the hopeful announcements made by leading entrepreneurs, to date no personal vehicle is approved for road circulation in a “fully” or “semi ...

Power-law Indices of EUV Intensity Power Spectrum in Flaring Coronal Active Regions
Solar intensity power spectra are usually characterized by colored noise, with the spectral energy following a segmented power-law function of frequency, S ( f ) ∝ f ^− ^α , over different frequency ranges. Typically, the power-law index exceeds 1 in the

Econometrics at the Extreme: From Quantile Regression to QFAVAR1
ABSTRACT This paper surveys quantile modelling from its theoretical origins to current advances. We organize the literature and present core econometric formulations and estimation methods for: (i) cross‐sectional quantile regression; (ii) quantile time series models and their time series properties; (iii) quantile vector autoregressions for ...

Spaceborne and spaceborn: Physiological aspects of pregnancy and birth during interplanetary flight
Abstract Crewed interplanetary return missions that are on the planning horizon will take years, more than enough time for initiation and completion of a pregnancy. Pregnancy is viewed as a sequence of processes – fertilization, blastocyst formation, implantation, gastrulation, placentation, organogenesis, gross morphogenesis, birth and neonatal ...

Tests of a New Solar Flare Model Against D and E Region Ionosphere Data
We present results from a suite of models designed to simulate solar flare effects on the D and E region of the ionosphere. This suite includes models of the solar spectrum, the ionosphere and of HF radiowave propagation.
