The Constraint of Crewed Mars Missions Based on Current Radiation Dose Measurements

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 24, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Crewed missions to Mars will be a milestone of future space exploration programs. However, the absence of Earth's magnetic field leaves astronauts directly exposed to unattenuated energetic particles in deep space, primarily galactic cosmic rays (GCRs), resulting in significantly higher radiation levels and enhanced health risks. Understanding

The Solar Flare Iron Abundance

open access: yes, 2012
The abundance of iron is measured from emission line complexes at 6.65 keV (Fe line) and 8 keV (Fe/Ni line) in {\em RHESSI} X-ray spectra during solar flares.

Analysis of series of solar flare X-ray spectra

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1981
Thirteen X-ray line spectra (7.8 to 23.0 A) acquired during a solar flare that peaked at 2326 UT were analyzed. The data include fluxes of lines excited throughout the temperature range present in the coronal flare. The coronal flare emission measure began to decrease 500 s or less after the broad band X-ray flux peaked.

Simulated Operational Testing of the Prototype Implementation of the SOFIE Model: The 2025 Space Weather Prediction Testbed Exercise

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 24, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract The CLEAR Space Weather Center of Excellence's solar energetic particle (SEP) model, SOlar wind with FIeld lines and Energetic particles (SOFIE), was run and evaluated on‐site during the Space Weather Prediction Testbed (SWPT) exercise at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Center (NOAA/SWPC) in May ...

Continuum Contributions to the SDO/AIA Passbands During Solar Flares

open access: yes, 2013
Data from the Multiple EUV Grating Spectrograph (MEGS-A) component of the Extreme Ultraviolet Experiment (EVE) onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) were used to quantify the contribution of continuum emission to each of the EUV channels of the ...

The exposomal imprint on rosacea: More than skin deep

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Volume 40, Issue 3, Page 387-403, March 2026.
Rosacea reflects systemic and environmental interactions, not just a skin disorder. Key factors include environmental triggers, genetic and microbiome influences, diagnostic gaps in skin of colour and social determinants. Advances in multi‐omics and exposome integration highlight pathways towards precision medicine, prevention and equitable, patient ...

Regularized Electron Flux Spectra in the 2002 July 23 Solar Flare

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2003
By inverting the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (RHESSI) hard X-ray photon spectrum with the Tikhonov regularization algorithm, we infer the effective mean electron source spectrum for a time interval near the peak of the 2002 July 23 event. This inverse approach yields the smoothest electron flux spectrum consistent with the data

Shock metamorphic effects in Itokawa phosphates: A comparison with megaregolith‐derived meteorites

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page 351-370, March 2026.
Abstract Returned regolith samples from the asteroid Itokawa provide a unique opportunity to compare shock metamorphic effects in unconsolidated regolith materials with those preserved in lithified meteorites, that is, megaregolith. We analyzed four Itokawa particles (Ueda—RA‐QD02‐0519, Narahara—RA‐QD02‐0573, Domon—RA‐QD02‐0588, Ishiuchi—RX‐MD03‐0212 ...

Evidence for beamed electrons in a limb X-ray flare observed by Hard X-Ray Imaging Spectrometer (HXIS) [PDF]

open access: yes
The limb flare of November 18, 1980, 14:51 UT, was investigated on the basis of X-ray images taken by the Hard X-ray Imaging Spectrometer (HXIS) and of X-ray spectra from the Hard X-Ray Burst Spectrometer (HXRBS) aboard the Solar Maximum Mission (SMM ...
