Scanning Electron Microscope Solid State Detectors [PDF]
Solid state detectors (SSD) are the most commonly used backscattered electron (BSE) detectors in scanning electron microscopy (SEM). They have been used for at least 20 years and many types are described in the literature. These detectors can be designed

Directional Tuning Curves, Elementary Movement Detectors, and the Estimation of the Direction of Visual Movement [PDF]
Both the insect brain and the vertebrate retina detect visual movement with neurons having broad, cosine-shaped directional tuning curves oriented in either of two perpendicular directions.

Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Rapid methods for the calibration of solid-state detectors
A complementary pair of rapid methods for the energy calibration of solid-state detectors have been developed. Each method requires only a single measurement from either (i) a glass sample containing elements chosen to produce fluorescence lines over a suitable energy range when exposed to a polychromatic beam of X-rays, or (ii) a powder diffraction ...

Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Quantum metrology of solid-state single-photon sources using photon-number-resolving detectors
Quantum-light sources based on semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) are promising candidates for many applications in quantum photonics and quantum communication. Important emission characteristics of such emitters, namely the single-photon purity and photon

Solid-state qubit measurement with single electron transistors [PDF]
In this paper we consider the continuous weak measurement of a solid-state qubit by single electron transistors (SET). For single-dot SET, we find that in nonlinear response regime the signal-to-noise ratio can violate the universal upper bound imposed ...
