Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Diversity analysis and isolates identification of Bacillus in high-temperature Daqu [PDF]

open access: yesZhongguo niangzao
In order to explore the diversity of Bacillus in high-temperature Daqu in Xiangyang of Hubei province, the sequencing data with Bacillus relative content>2.0% of high-temperature Daqu samples were downloaded and screened.

Typical Mexican agroindustrial residues as supports for solid-state fermentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Biological wastes contain several reusable substances of high value such as soluble sugars and fiber. Direct disposal of such wastes to soil or landfill causes serious environmental problems.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Production and statistical optimization of Paromomycin by Streptomyces rimosus NRRL 2455 in solid state fermentation

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2021
Background Paromomycin is a 2-deoxystreptamine aminocyclitol aminoglycoside antibiotic with broad spectrum activity against Gram-negative, Gram-positive bacteria and many protozoa. This study introduces a strategy for paromomycin production through solid-

The effect of olive cake types on lipase production by isolated Rhizopus sp. and process statistical optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this work was to study the production of extracellular lipase by solid-state fermentation with different olive cakes varieties including Mary, Shenghe and Yellow from isolated fungi using agro-industries waste such as rice straw, rice barn and

RNAseq reveals hydrophobins that are involved in the adaptation of aspergillus nidulans to lignocellulose [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background Sugarcane is one of the world’s most profitable crops. Waste steam-exploded sugarcane bagasse (SEB) is a cheap, abundant, and renewable lignocellulosic feedstock for the next-generation biofuels.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Comparing the effects of two different vitamin regimens on bone metabolism for meat ducks at starting phase

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science
Objective Leg problems including lameness and tibial dyschondroplasia (TD) are one of the most important factors affecting health and animal welfare in meat-type poultry, which are considerably impacted by dietary vitamin regimens.

Electricity-assisted production of caproic acid from grass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Medium chain carboxylic acids, such as caproic acid, are conventionally produced from food materials. Caproic acid can be produced through fermentation by the reverse beta-oxidation of lactic acid, generated from low value lignocellulosic ...
