Recovery of Metals from Electronic Waste-Printed Circuit Boards by Ionic Liquids, DESs and Organophosphorous-Based Acid Extraction

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
The extraction of metals from waste printed circuit boards (WPCBs) with ionic liquids (ILs), Deep Eutectic Solvents (DESs) and organophosphorous-based acid (Cyanex 272) has been presented.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Modelling of Andrographolide Extraction from Andrographis Paniculata Leaves in a Soxhlet Extractor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Andrographolide is the main diterpenoid lactone contained in the leaves of Andrographis paniculata. This bioactive component has multifunctional medicinal properties such as activity against fever, dysentery, diarrhoea, inflammation, and sore throat as

Methodologies for the Extraction of Phenolic Compounds from Environmental Samples: New Approaches

open access: yesMolecules, 2009
Phenolic derivatives are among the most important contaminants present in the environment. These compounds are used in several industrial processes to manufacture chemicals such as pesticides, explosives, drugs and dyes.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Quantification of sirolimus by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry using on-line solid-phase extraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Quantification of the new immunosuppressant sirolimus (syn. rapamycin; Rapamune((R))) in whole blood by chromatography is essential for its clinical use since no immunoassay is available although monitoring is mandatory.

A covalent organic framework-derived pretreatment for pesticides in vegetables and fruits

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
Sample pretreatment is an essential procedure in pesticide analysis, as the matrix effect can significantly influence the results. In this study, a covalent organic framework (COF) was synthesized using 1,2,4,5-tetrakis-(4-formylphenyl)benzene (TFPB) and

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
