Low levels of somatomedin C in patients with the fibromyalgia syndrome. A possible link between sleep and muscle pain.

open access: yesArthritis & Rheumatism, 1992
OBJECTIVE Fibromyalgia is a common syndrome of musculoskeletal pain and fatigue. Lacking distinctive tissue or laboratory correlations, it has often been considered a form of "psychogenic rheumatism." In the present study, the notion that the stage-4 ...

Chondroitin sulfate in invertebrate development

open access: yesProteoglycan Research, Volume 2, Issue 4, October-December 2024.
Abstract Chondroitin sulfate (CS) is one of the most evolutionarily conserved glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). Although CS's function in skeletal development is well established in vertebrates, CS exists in more primitive animal species with no cartilage or bone, such as C.

Low cholesterol levels are good markers for central hypothyroidism in case with dialysis using roxadustat

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 12, Issue 9, September 2024.
Key Clinical Message Recently, hypoxia‐inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF‐PH) inhibitors have been used for renal anemia, but side effects have also been reported. We report on the association of central hypothyroidism and cholesterol with roxadustat.

Human embryonic somatomedin. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1981
A radioreceptor assay utilizing human fetal brain plasma membrane as matrix and somatomedin A as ligand (fetal brain RRA-SMA) was developed. Increased levels of fetal brain RRA-SMA were found in the fetal circulation. The concentration was approximately 4-fold higher in the fetal as compared to the adult human.

Proteomic exploration of potential blood biomarkers in haemophilic arthropathy

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2024.
Abstract Background and Aims The pathophysiology of haemophilic arthropathy (HA) is complex and largely undefined. Proteomic analyses provide insights into the intricate mechanisms of the HA. Our study aimed to identify differentially expressed proteins in relation to the severity of HA, explore their pathophysiological roles, and evaluate their ...

The Effect of Three Months of Zinc-Magnesium Supplementation along with Intense Endurance Training on Somatomedin C and Endurance Performance in Mature Female Rats

open access: yesMajallah-i Dānishgāh-i ̒Ulūm-i Pizishkī-i Qum, 2018
Background and Objectives: Most athletes suffer from zinc and magnesium deficiency. Zinc and magnesium deficiency can reduce anabolic hormones and reduce performance of athletes.

Early life interventions metformin and trodusquemine metabolically reprogram the developing mouse liver through transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 23, Issue 9, September 2024.
This study examined the effects of metformin (MF) and trodusquemine (MSI‐1436) on the livers of young, developing mice. We discovered that MSI‐1436 significantly alters mRNA and miRNA expression more potently than MF, impacting key metabolic pathways.

Scale‐Dependent Rheology of Synovial Fluid Lubricating Macromolecules

open access: yesSmall, Volume 20, Issue 21, May 23, 2024.
A multiscale methodology using optical tweezers is developed to examine the interactions between hyaluronic acid (HA) and proteoglycan‐4 (PRG4/lubricin), which are major lubricating biomolecules of synovial fluid in the joints. For the first time, the length scale dependent structure and rheology in solution are characterized, providing a framework for

Insight into vitronectin structural evolution on material surface chemistries: The mediation for cell adhesion

open access: yesBioactive Materials, 2020
Biomaterial surface chemistry engenders profound consequences on cell adhesion and the ultimate tissue response by adsorbing proteins from extracellular matrix, where vitronectin (Vn) is involved as one of the crucial mediator proteins.

Proteoglycan 4 (PRG4) treatment improves skin wound healing in a porcine model

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 38, Issue 6, 31 March 2024.
Proteoglycan 4 (PRG4) is commonly found in synovial fluid of the articular joint and serves as a boundary lubricant of articular cartilage. Interestingly, we show that human recombinant proteoglycan 4 (rhPRG4) improves healing of porcine full‐thickness skin injuries. rhPRG4 treatment decreases fibrosis, increases vascularization, and retains adipocytes
