Advances in the Use of Biologics and Biomaterials toward the Improvement of Pancreatic Islet Graft Survival in Type 1 Diabetes

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, Volume 4, Issue 3, March 2024.
Although islet transplantation has the potential to serve as a curative treatment for type 1 diabetes, there are many hurdles to achieving long‐term islet graft survival. This review discusses the recent advances in strategies to improve islet survival function using exogenous compounds and conformal coatings as a promising tool for improving islet ...

Hormonal control of immunoreactive somatomedin production by cultured human fibroblasts.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 1981
Human growth hormone (hGH) is known to be a potent stimulator of somatomedin secretion in vivo. The induction of somatomedin by growth hormone has been difficult to study in vitro, however, because no organ containing a high concentration of somatomedin ...

The in vitro and in vivo effects of human growth hormone administration on tumor growth of rats bearing a transplantable rat pituitary tumor (7315b) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The direct effects of human GH and IGF-I on PRL secretion and cell proliferation were studied on PRL secreting rat pituitary tumor 7315b cells in vitro, as well as the effects in vivo of human GH administration on body weight, IGF-I levels and tumor size

The biophysical and compositional properties of human basement membranes

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 291, Issue 3, Page 477-488, February 2024.
Basement membranes are exceptionally adaptable materials with both extremely stiff and highly elastic properties. This article highlights these features on a selection of human membranes and links them to compositional, biomechanical, and structural profiles down to a molecular level. The role of water in modulating these attributes is also scrutinized

Growth hormone secretion from pituitary cells in chronic renal insufficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Growth hormone secretion from pituitary cells in chronic renal insufficiency. To examine whether growth hormone (GH) secretion is adversely affected by chronic renal insufficiency (CRI), the GH secretory response of dispersed anterior pituitary cells ...

Guidelines on diagnostics and treatment of acromegaly (draft)

open access: yesОжирение и метаболизм
We recommend acromegaly to be ruled in all patients with characteristic changes in appearance (A3). In all patients without characteristic changes in appearance, we recommend to rule out acromegaly, if several clinical signs suspicious for acromegaly are

Quantification of insulin‐like growth factor‐I by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, Volume 38, Issue S1, January 2024.
We describe three methods of sample preparation for the liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometric measurement of insulin‐like growth factor‐I concentration in blood. One method involves trypsin digestion, the second involves intact protein quantification and the third method is a combination of the first two.

Molecular crosstalk between insulin‐like growth factors and follicle‐stimulating hormone in the regulation of granulosa cell function

open access: yesReproductive Medicine and Biology, Volume 23, Issue 1, January/December 2024.
Crosstalk between insulin‐like growth factors and follicle‐stimulating hormone in the regulation of ovarian antral follicles. Abstract Background The last phase of folliculogenesis is driven by follicle‐stimulating hormone (FSH) and locally produced insulin‐like growth factors (IGFs), both essential for forming preovulatory follicles.

Inhibition of the mitogenic effects of plasma by a monoclonal antibody to somatomedin C.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 1984
Immunoneutralization studies with a monoclonal antibody to somatomedin C (Sm-C) were undertaken to further determine the role of this peptide in cellular proliferation. For our model we used density-arrested cultures of BALB/c 3T3 cells.

Expression of the insulin-like growth factor-II/mannose-6-phosphate receptor in multiple human tissues during fetal life and early infancy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The insulin like growth factor-II/mannose-6-phosphate (IGF-II/M6P) receptor has been detected in many cells and tissues. In the rat, there is a dramatic developmental regulation of IGF-II/M6P receptor expression, the receptor being high in fetal and ...
