Case Report—An Unusual Presentation of Cervical Meningioma as a Carotid Body Mass Diagnosed by Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology

open access: yesCytopathology, Volume 36, Issue 6, Page 606-609, November 2025.
We describe an unusual case of cervical meningioma presenting as a carotid body tumour. This case emphasises the importance of cytoradiologic correlation in lesions with atypical imaging findings; and the crucial role of fine needle aspiration cytology in accurately diagnosing masses in precarious anatomic sites of the head and neck.

High‐intensity statin therapy is associated with reduced coronary inflammation on CT in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 27, Issue 11, Page 6395-6402, November 2025.
Abstract Aims Pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) attenuation, assessed by coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA), is a biomarker of coronary inflammation. Mean PCAT attenuation ≥ −70.5 Hounsfield Units (HU) corresponds to elevated inflammation and a higher future risk of myocardial infarction.

Neocortical neurogenesis: a proneural gene perspective

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 292, Issue 21, Page 5580-5610, November 2025.
The neocortex is a mammalian‐specific brain region responsible for higher‐order cognitive functioning that shares fundamental similarities across species, but which is larger and more complex in humans. Proneural genes, encoding basic helix–loop–helix transcription factors (TFs), are evolutionarily conserved drivers of neurogenesis from fly to human ...
