Past, present and future of Focused Ultrasound as an adjunct or complement to DIPG/DMG therapy: A consensus of the 2021 FUSF DIPG meeting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), now known as Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG) is a devastating pediatric brain tumor with limited treatment options and a very poor prognosis.

Intracellular Reactive Oxygen Species Generation Induced by High‐Frequency Ultrasound in Thickness Vibration Mode

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cell‐sized high‐frequency ultrasound using a lithium niobate transducer, previously ignored in reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, generated intracellular ROS at frequencies higher than conventionally used. The intracellular generation of ROS by cell‐sized high‐frequency ultrasound revealed in this study is expected to be applied to innovative ...

Sonodynamic therapy in combination with photodynamic therapy shows enhanced long-term cure of brain tumor

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
This article presents the construction of a multimodality platform that can be used for efficient destruction of brain tumor by a combination of photodynamic and sonodynamic therapy.

Bacterial Outer Membrane Vesicles in Potentiating Cancer Vaccines: Progress and Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) have emerged as versatile platforms for cancer vaccine development owing to their intrinsic immunostimulatory properties and high engineering flexibility. This review summarizes OMV biology, immune mechanisms, and engineering strategies that enhance vaccine efficacy, discusses key translational challenges, and ...

Overcoming breast cancer cell treatment resistance by optimizing sonodynamic therapy and radiation sensitizers on lncRNA PVT1 and miR-1204 expression

open access: yesPhotodiagnosis and Photodynamic Therapy
Background: Acoustic cavitation is a foundational mechanism in ultrasound therapy, primarily through inertial cavitation resulting from microbubble collapse.

Ultrasound‐Activated Bifunctional Piezoelectric Hydrogel Dressings Promote Infected Wound Healing via Regulating Angiogenesis and Lymphangiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study developed a double‐network hydrogel with piezoelectric properties, exhibiting excellent antibacterial activity and promoting fibroblast migration, angiogenesis, and lymphangiogenesis through piezoelectric stimulation, thereby accelerating the healing of infected chronic wounds.

5-Aminolevulinic Acid Triggered by Ultrasound Halts Tumor Proliferation in a Syngeneic Model of Breast Cancer

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2021
Sonodynamic therapy is a bimodal therapeutic approach in which a chemical compound and ultrasound (US) synergistically act to elicit oxidative damage, triggering cancer cell death.

Development and characterisation of disulfiram-loaded PLGA nanoparticles for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer in both men and women. A recent phase IIb study demonstrated that disulfiram (DSF) in combination with cisplatin and vinorelbine was well tolerated and prolonged the survival of ...

Aptamer‐Engineered Liposomal Platform Enables in Situ cDC1 Vaccination to Potentiate Immunotherapy in Prostate Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Prostate cancer is immunologically ‘cold’, with scarce, dysfunctional type 1 conventional dendritic cells (cDC1s) that limit T cell priming. We introduce an aptamer‐targeted liposomedelivering FMS‐like tyrosine kinase 3 ligand (Flt3L) and chlorin e6 (Ce6). Ultrasound induces antigen release and cDC1s recruitment, creating an in situ cDC1 vaccine.
