Numerical Modeling for Earthquake Source Image: Implications for Array Design in Determining the Rupture Process

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2004
The aim of this study is to develop a numerical method to evaluate the optimum seismic station distribution for imaging the source rupture process of an earthquake. Based on the beam-forming technique, the source rupture distribution of an earthquake can be reconstructed through theoretical travel time correction and waveform stacking.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Analysis of Rupture Directivity for the 2004 Sumatra Earthquake from the Rayleigh-Wave Phase Velocity

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2010
The rupture directivity for the 2004 Sumatra earthquake is analyzed by examining differences between the phase-de lay times of Rayleigh-waves (in the 140 - 160 sec period range) arising from the main shock and reference earth quakes.

Source rupture processes of the 2016 Kumamoto, Japan, earthquakes estimated from strong-motion waveforms [PDF]

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2016
The detailed source rupture process of the M 7.3 event (April 16, 2016, 01:25, JST) of the 2016 Kumamoto, Japan, earthquakes was derived from strong-motion waveforms using multiple-time-window linear waveform inversion. Based on the observations of surface ruptures, the spatial distribution of aftershocks, and the geodetic data, a realistic curved ...

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Verification of high rupture speed of the 1990 Luzon earthquake, Philippines from Taiwan seismic network observations

open access: yesGeoscience Letters
On July 16, 1990, a Mw 7.7 earthquake struck central Luzon, Philippines. The event produced more than 100 km of surface rupture along the Philippine Fault system. Seismologists conducted detailed investigations of the overall source rupture process using

Source faulting properties of the 2021 MS 6.4 Yangbi, China, earthquake sequence

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk
The 2021 Yangbi earthquake sequence occurred on the southwestern margin of the Chuandian block in China, which is a typical foreshock-mainshock-aftershock sequence.

Patient therapy outcome modeling in cancer organoids is improved by cancer‐associated fibroblasts and organoid assembly convolution

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) from pancreatic, colorectal, and gastric cancers were used to evaluate standard and experimental therapies. Incorporating cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) into organoid cultures improved patient therapy outcome prediction.
