Kappa distributions: Thermodynamic origin and Generation in space plasmas

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2018
The paper reviews the new developments on the thermodynamic origin of kappa distributions and their generation in space plasmas. We present the correct formulation of kappa distributions that is consistent with thermodynamics.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

The Electric Field and Its Impact on the Pitch Angle of Trapped Electrons in a Sub-ion-scale Magnetic Hole

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Sub-ion-scale magnetic holes (MHs) are ubiquitous structures in plasmas across a wide range of environments. Despite previous observational and modeling efforts, the three-dimensional (3D) electric field in MHs has yet to be adequately resolved.

Long-Term Independence of Solar Wind Polytropic Index on Plasma Flow Speed

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
The paper derives the polytropic indices over the last two solar cycles (years 1995–2017) for the solar wind proton plasma near Earth (~1 AU). We use ~92-s datasets of proton plasma moments (speed, density, and temperature), measured from the Solar

Visualizing Color Plasma Instabilities

open access: yes, 2005
I discuss recent advances in the understanding of non-equilibrium gauge field dynamics in plasmas which have particle distributions which are locally anisotropic in momentum space.

On the Simplification of Statistical Mechanics for Space Plasmas

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
Space plasmas are frequently described by kappa distributions. Non-extensive statistical mechanics involves the maximization of the Tsallis entropic form under the constraints of canonical ensemble, considering also a dyadic formalism between the ...

Velocity-space cascade in magnetized plasmas: Numerical simulations [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas, 2018
Plasma turbulence is studied via direct numerical simulations in a two-dimensional spatial geometry. Using a hybrid Vlasov-Maxwell model, we investigate the possibility of a velocity-space cascade.

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Theoretical Perspective on the Occurrence of Electrostatic Solitary Waves and Double Layers in Ganymede’s Wake Region

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The first close flyby of Ganymede by Juno on 2021 June 7 provided a unique opportunity to visit the previously unexplored wake and magnetopause regions.

The proton pressure tensor as a new proxy of the proton decoupling region in collisionless magnetic reconnection [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2011
Cluster data is analyzed to test the proton pressure tensor variations as a proxy of the proton decoupling region in collisionless magnetic reconnection.
