Plume Migration of Different Carbon Dioxide Phases During Geological Storage in Deep Saline Aquifers

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2015
This study estimates the plume migration of mobile supercritical phase (flowing), aqueous phase (dissolved), and ionic phase CO2 (bicarbonate), and evaluates the spatial distribution of immobile supercritical phase (residual) and mineral phase CO2 ...

Functional role and folding properties of the glucan‐binding domain of oral bacterial glucansucrase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The role of the glucan‐binding domain in Streptococcus sobrinus glucansucrase was examined, focusing on its impact on enzymatic activity, dextran binding, and structural stability of deletion mutants and a circularly permuted protein. Our research revealed that glucosyl transfer efficiency is linked to cooperative interdomain folding.

Slug Test in a Large Dip Angle Fracture Zone: Model and Field Experiment

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2015
A single-porosity model is developed to deal with a fracture zone slug test in a large dip angle by assuming the fracture zone causes a downward regional flow.

The cytochrome oxidase defect in ISC‐depleted yeast is caused by impaired iron–sulfur cluster maturation of the mitoribosome assembly factor Rsm22

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The yeast mitoribosome assembly factor Rsm22 contains a [4Fe‐4S] cluster that is matured by the mitochondrial iron–sulfur cluster assembly (ISC) machinery. Defects in ISC components result in impaired mitochondrial protein synthesis due to a mitoribosome assembly defect.

Virus Effect on Marine Synechococcus Spp. Loss in Subtropical Western Pacific Coastal Waters During Winter

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2015
Little is known about microbial processes and the effect that viruses have on Synechococcus spp. in aquatic environments. This study investigated diel variations in the Synechococcus spp. abundance in three size-fractionated water samples (200, 10, and 2

Exploring lipid diversity and minimalism to define membrane requirements for synthetic cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Designing the lipid membrane of synthetic cells is a complex task, in which its various roles (among them solute transport, membrane protein support, and self‐replication) should all be integrated. In this review, we report the latest top‐down and bottom‐up advances and discuss compatibility and complexity issues of current engineering approaches ...
