Controlled attitude motion of the space tether system at the retraction tether stage
International Journal of Engineering Systems Modelling and Simulation, 2020This study focuses on the dynamics of a rendezvous of a tug and large space debris connected by a viscoelastic tether. It is assumed that control is realised by changing the length of the tether. The goal is to study the dynamic of the manoeuvre of the rendezvous and to find the ways, which allow to control the attitude motion of a space tether system.

Peculiarities of wave dynamics in the tether of a space tethered system
Acta Astronautica, 2022Annotation In this paper we analyze the wave's effects in the tether of a space tethered system. The space tethered system is considered as a “big” massive satellite or a spacecraft moving along a circular orbit and a smaller satellite (endmass) connected with the first one by flexible and stretchable long tether.

Dynamic processes in the tether of a space tethered system
Acta Astronautica, 2019Abstracts In this work dynamical processes in the tether of а space tethered system are considered. The whole system is designed to “clean” orbits of space debris. The system consists of a «big» satellite moving along a circular or slightly elliptical orbit (orbital station or some satellite for orbital missions where fragments of space debris can be

Dynamic control of the space tethered system
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2017Abstract We discuss the problem of simultaneous dynamical stabilization and suppression of transverse and longitudinal vibrations of the space tethered system deployed along a certain trajectory. The dynamics of the system is described by a system of nonlinear partial differential equations for the longitudinal and transverse waves and we consider a ...

The survivability of space tether systems in orbit around the earth
Acta Astronautica, 2005The survivability analysis carried out to support the design of a new tether system, being studied in Italy for spacecraft and upper stages end-of-life de-orbiting, is presented. In particular, the problem represented by meteoroids and orbital debris impacts able to cut the tether was addressed, by considering several system con/gurations in order to ...
