Pion Detection Using Single Photon Avalanche Diodes
We present the first reported use of a CMOS-compatible single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) array for the detection of high-energy charged particles, specifically pions, using the Super Proton Synchrotron at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear ...

Ratiometric Mycotoxin Detection in Living Plants With Dual‐Emissive Nanosensors
A minimally invasive microneedle patch integrates carbon dot‐embedded metal–organic frameworks as nanosensors to detect a key fungal toxin in living plants. The nanosensor produces a ratiometric fluorescence signal that enables early, non‐destructive diagnosis of fungal infection before visible symptoms, offering a new biomaterials‐based strategy for ...

Compact CMOS active quenching/recharge circuit for SPAD arrays [PDF]
SummaryAvalanche diodes operating in Geiger mode are able to detect single photon events. They can be employed to photon counting and time‐of‐flight estimation. In order to ensure proper operation of these devices, the avalanche current must be rapidly quenched, and, later on, the initial equilibrium must be restored.

Quantum-enhanced imaging with SPAD array cameras
(English) Entangled photon pairs can enhance optical imaging capabilities. Phase imaging allows detecting fine detail of transparent samples without potentially invasive fluorescent labelling, and here entanglement enables a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) than possible with only classical light. Spatial correlations from spontaneous parametric down

1.8-µm pitch, 47-ps jitter SPAD array in a 130 nm SiGe BiCMOS process.
We introduce the world's first SPAD family design in 130 nm SiGe BiCMOS process. At 1.8 µm, we achieved the smallest pitch on record thanks to guard-ring sharing techniques, while keeping a relatively high fill factor of 24.2%.
