The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Environmental factors influencing the distribution of bats (Chiroptera) in South Africa
Environmental factors limiting the distribution of 37 of the 56 bat species in a warm temperate region (South Africa) were determined using GIS software and the Maximum Entropy modelling technique (MaxEnt).

Modelling the effects of climate change on the distribution and production of marine fishes:Accounting for trophic interactions in a dynamic bioclimate envelope model [PDF]
Climate change has already altered the distribution of marine fishes. Future predictions of fish distributions and catches based on bioclimate envelope models are available, but to date they have not considered interspecific interactions. We address this

Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Novel methods for species distribution mapping including spatial models in complex regions
Species Distribution Modelling (SDM) plays a key role in a number of biological applications: assessment of temporal trends in distribution, environmental impact assessment and spatial conservation planning.

Developing a quantitative indicator to monitor cetacean distributional change
Monitoring the distribution of cetaceans is a priority in marine conservation. However, current ecosystem-wide assessments lack indicators on distribution: cetacean distribution maps fall short of quantitative reporting purposes.

The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

How do biodiversity patterns of river animals emerge from the distributions of common and rare species? [PDF]
We studied the patterns of commonness and rarity for one vertebrate (fish) and four freshwater insect taxa (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera and Coleoptera) in southwestern France (57,000 km²), and we analysed the relationships between the location
