Quantitative secondary ion mass spectrometry
mental standards, and by statistical and systematic errors in the measurement of x-ray lines and in the separation of line intensity from spectral background. The errors in estimating the characteristics of the detector system, with exception of deadtime effects, cancel when the emission from the specimen is divided by that from the standard.

Experimental evidence for hydrogen incorporation into Earth’s core
Based on diamond-anvil cell experiments and cutting-edge secondary ion mass spectrometry analyses, the authors here show that hydrogen may be an important constituent in the Earth’s core and also in the metallic cores of any terrestrial planet or moon ...

C ion-implanted TiO2 thin film for photocatalytic applications [PDF]
Third-generation TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared by implantation of C+ ions into 110 nm thick TiO2 films. An accurate structural investigation was performed by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, secondary ion mass spectrometry, X-ray diffraction ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Diffusible ions (Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl–) are vital for healthy function of all cells, especially brain cells. Unfortunately, the diffusible nature of these ions renders them difficult to study with traditional microscopy in situ within ex vivo brain ...

This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

Characterization of TiAl alloys by secondary Ion mass spectrometry [PDF]
Titanium aluminides are arising as a valuable alternative to superalloys in applications where the ratio resistance/density is important. Together with excellent mechanical and corrosion properties at high temperatures, such characteristics are very ...
